Coalition Of The Willing

March 20th 2011Last week I attended the conference ‘Ethical Marketing: are you a saint or a sinner?’ held by Chris Smith, founder of Eco-tube. It was a very interesting and educational day with talks from some very inspiring entrepreneurs and professionals from companies such as Aquatina, Belu and Fairtrade. During Chris’s talk on ethical marketing he played this brilliant animated film, ‘Coalition Of The Willing‘.
It’s a film that discusses how we can use new internet technologies to leverage the powers of activists, experts, and ordinary citizens in collaborative ventures to combat climate change. It is directed and produced by Knife Party, written by Tim Rayner and crafted by a network of 24 artists from around the world (mirroring the open-source collaborative working method that is discussed in the film) using varied and eclectic film making techniques. Collaborators include some of the world’s top moving image talent, such as Decoy, World Leaders and Parasol Island.
Very interestingly the ideas discussed at the end of the film about open-source collaboration and social networking have already been put into practice by two initiatives I have previously blogged about, Open Ideo and Sony’s Open Planet Ideas first realization, Greenbook. It would be interesting to know whether they were directly influenced by the film or not, either way it’s great to see such big agencies and companies turning these ideas into a reality.
It really is a stunning piece of animated film making!
